Tenant Credit Check

A stitch in time saves nine is an old proverb; and is very true in its meaning. As a landlord, if you do a credit check and a credibility check of your prospective tenant before you rent out your property, it could save you a lot of headaches in the future. A tenant credit check is a must against all odds.

Here are some reasons why you should get a tenant credit check.

Your tenant may have been evicted before and you do not know about it. An eviction is a serious situation. The tenant must have really delayed or skipped paying rent. Eviction often results in losses for the landlord. The court fees are an additional expenditure and there is no guarantee that you will receive the rent owed

Your tenant may have defaulted before, and he could be in the high risk category for you.

The tenant may be unemployed and you do not know about it.

The tenant could have a criminal record. .

There are several ifs and buts that get answered by a simple credit check. Anything that goes wrong financially with a person reflects on the credit report. The credit report should be taken rather seriously. Also, in the case of serious problems like eviction, the status shows up on the report for nearly 7 years. So, a landlord can easily know of there has been a problem with the tenant. A tenant with no credit history is as risky as a tenant with bad credit history. So, consider all the pros and cons before you actually go out and let your house for rent.
